American Cancer Society Services in New Hanover County
Cancer Information: 1-800-ACS-2345 or www.cancer.org, both services are available twenty-four hours a day seven days a week.
Cancer Survivors Network is a telephone-based (1-877-333-4673) and web-based (www.cancer.org) support service created by and for cancer survivors, their families, caregivers, and friends. It is designed to address the user’s needs to connect them with others in similar situations.
ACS Affiliated Support Groups
Karen Jo Smith Breast Cancer Support Group - The support group welcomes all women who have had breast cancer. By sharing experiences, women gain emotional support and develop coping skills. Wilmington Prostate Cancer Support Group – The support group provides a unique opportunity to share your concerns with men who have been in similar situations. The members are extremely knowledge about prostate cancer and remain up to date on the latest developments in research and treatment options. The group meets the first Thursday of every month at 6pm at NHRMC. For more information please contact Bill Fitzpatrick at 799-8993.
Ovarian Cancer Support Group: "Healing Bodies, Healing Minds" is sponsored by the Zimmer Cancer Center. This is support group that welcomes all women whose lives have been touched by Ovarian Cancer. The group offers emotional support to women who are currently receiving treatment, completed with treatment or who have opted not to have treatment.
The group also provides resources, enhances coping skills and is pro-active in the education of this type of cancer. The Group meets the 1st Monday of every month (unless on a holiday) from 4:00 - 5:30 in the Zimmer Cancer Center conference room. Caregivers Support Group:
This support group is for friends and family caregivers of cancer patients. The group will meet the first Thursday of each month at the American Cancer Society office. 2202 Wrightsville Ave. Suite 111. For more information, call 254-4870
